Through the Abbotsford Disaster Relief Fund Grant, generously provided by the Abbotsford Community Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley successfully delivered four resiliency-focused events for mentors and mentees throughout 2025.
Each event addressed a key aspect of resilience, including mindfulness, grief support, therapeutic art practices, and Indigenous ways of healing.
The events were attended by Big Brothers Big Sisters matches—mentors and mentees together—and were supported by practicum students who assisted staff with facilitation.
These gatherings provided a meaningful space for connection, learning, and community-building, equipping participants with practical mental health and resiliency skills they can carry forward in their mentoring relationships and beyond.
Facilitated for approximately 24 participants, the two-hour events combined structured instruction with time for informal connection.
Healthy snacks were provided, and each participant received a takeaway bag filled with valuable resources and wellness-related items.
