Red Cross Community Gathering Grant

With support from the Red Cross, BBBSFV hosted two free, accessible community events focused on resilience, well-being, and connection for communities impacted by the 2021 floods.

Guided by the principle “Nothing for us without us,” the project honoured Indigenous perspectives and community-informed planning through local facilitators and culturally grounded practices.

Held in flood-impacted venues, the events offered healing workshops rooted in mindfulness, art, movement, and community care, alongside shared meals that fostered connection and collaboration.

A key highlight of the project was the thoughtfully curated takeaway kits provided to every participant.

These kits were designed to extend the benefits of the gatherings beyond the day itself and included comfort items, creative materials, resiliency-focused resources, community mental health supports, and disaster recovery information from United Way BC.

Participants consistently described the kits as a meaningful and lasting outcome of the funding.
